Taping & Strapping
There are many different types of tape for different issues. I have listed some of them and their potential uses:Rigid or Zinc Oxide Tape - used to restrict movement and stabilise joints
Compression Tape / Crepe Bandage / Elastic Adhesive Bandage (EAB) - used for compression and some support but allows some movement eg: ankle sprains
Kinesio (K) Tape - The Kinesio Taping® technique and Kinesio tape was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in Japan in the 1970's. It is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion, in addition to providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy already administered.
K-Tape targets different receptors to alleviate pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin and fascial layers. This lifting increases interstitial space and allows for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.
K-Tape is 100% cotton, latex-free and has a distinctive wave pattern throughout the tape. It is water resistant and generally wearable for 2-7 days depending on site of application and wear and tear. It comes in multiple colours.
K-Tape is individually applied to the patient based on their needs. Single “I” strips or “X”, “Y” or other shapes plus the direction and amount of stretch placed on the tape at time of application are all considerations. K-Tape can be applied in many ways and has the ability to re-educate the neuromuscular system, reduce pain and inflammation, enhance performance, prevent injury, promote good circulation and healing and assist in returning the body to homeostasis. It has also been proven to have positive physiological effects on the skin, lymphatic and circulatory system, fascia, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints.
In order to achieve the desired results from taping, an assessment of your condition is required. This can be completed as part of a massage treatment for no additional cost or as a separate 15-20 minute appointment (for existing clients whom I have good knowledge of the issue in question) for £25.
