Muscle Matters Massage and Therapist Angela Burnikell
Angela qualified in 1989 with a degree in Biological and Biochemical Science at Salford University and began a career in the pharmaceutical industry in clinical trials for new drugs.
In 2011 Angela gave up her pharmaceutical career to focus more on her love of sport combined with the human body, its movements and the dysfunction of its movements and studied for the highest level Sports and Remedial Massage / Soft Tissue Therapy qualification in the UK (a Professional Diploma in Clinical Sport and Remedial Massage Therapy (Level 5) from the London School of Sport and Remedial Massage). To pass the course required a thorough knowledge of most of the muscles in the body, where they attach and their movements, multiple massage techniques (including Deep Tissue Massage, Soft Tissue Release, Friction, Muscle Energy Techniques - Post Isometric Relaxation and Reciprocal Inhibition, Neuromuscular techniques and Positional Release), stretching and strengthening exercises, Anatomy and Physiology and Rehabilitation plans. She qualified with the highest mark on her course in June 2012. Subsequently she set up Muscle Matters Massage as her Sports and Remedial Massage Treatment / Soft Tissue Therapy business.
Angela has completed 10 marathons in the past and a number of half marathons, 10k and 5 mile races. She also enjoys cycling and has raced in Time Trials over 10, 15, 25 and 50 mile distances, including representing Great Britain in 2017 in the GB Age Group Time Trial and Road Race. She has also competed in a number of triathlons (sprint, Olympic, Half and Full IronMan distances) with her proudest achievement to date winning her age group in the Outlaw Iron Man distance. She is therefore qualified professionally and via personal experience in over-training, overuse injuries and rehabilitation in addition to massage treatments, taping and strapping, Medical Acupuncture / ElectroAcupuncture, Ultrasound and Cupping.
Having worked in a career that involves spending hours on the computer, phone or driving or flying long distances, Angela is also acutely aware how important a good balanced posture is to ensure minimising aches and pains. A bad posture, either seated or standing can result in muscle imbalances that can cause (amongst other things) neck, back, shoulder, knee, hip, elbow or wrist pain. She is experienced in treating many clients who complain of these conditions and can also give good advice to help postural imbalances.
Since qualifying Angela has obtained additional training and qualifications in Myofascial Release, Taping and Strapping (including Kinesiology (K) Taping) and Medical Acupuncture, Advanced Medical Acupuncture and ElectroAcupuncture for musculoskeletal conditions, Ultrasound and Cupping. She is fully insured to practise all of the techniques she has been trained in and certificates and insurance qualifications plus CRB documentation can be provided upon request.
Angela also became qualified in LashNV Lash Lift in 2017. See here
